The Biology of Belief:
Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter and Miracles
By Bruce H. Lipton
Read by the author
Sounds True
http://www.soundstrue.com

Here is a fascinating look at an alternative perspective in biology and physics by a former medical school professor and research scientist. The Biology of Belief examines from a new perspective the processes by which cells receive information, and how beliefs affect our health. It shows that genes and DNA are somewhat overrated, and do not control our biology. Instead DNA is controlled by signals from outside the cell, including the energetic messages emanating from our positive and negative thoughts. Dr. Lipton's research in cell biology and quantum physics is seen as a major breakthrough showing that our bodies can be changed based largely on our thinking and attitude.

Offices, and On-the-Fly Planning Make the World a Better Place
By Eric Abrahamson, David H. Freedman
Hachette Audio
http://www.hachettebookgroupusa.com/

In a humorous and informative audio, the authors examine how messy systems can be more effective than highly organized ones. Neatness for its own sake, they say, not only has hidden costs in terms of wasted hours that could be spent doing other work, but it can also interfere with the creative process. According to the authors, moderately disorganized people and businesses seem to be more efficient, more robust, and more creative than the obsessively neat. As examples, the authors cite a hardware store packed with every sort of product in seemingly disorganized fashion that does twice the business of the "neat" one down the block.

The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town
By John Grisham
Read by Craig Wasson
Random House Audio,

I chose to review this audio after seeing Grisham on The Charlie Rose Show on PBS. Grisham's first work of nonfiction focuses on the tragedy of Ron Williamson, a baseball hero from a small town in Oklahoma who winds up a dissolute, mentally unstable Major League baseball player who fails at this job and ends up on death row for a hometown rape and murder he did not commit. He narrates the events leading up to the 1982 rape and murder of a young cocktail waitress with a mixture of suspicion and curiosity, moving on to astonishment at the prosecution's use of deceit and false testimony to convict Williamson and Fritz and, eventually, elation at the exoneration of the two innocent men. Throughout, he maintains an appealing conversational tone.

Tomorrow's God: Our Greatest Spiritual Challenge
By Neale Donald Walsh, read by the author
Simon & Schuster Audio
http://www.simonandschuster.com/

Intense, opinionated, insightful, radical and many other terms could accurately describe this audio. The author of the Conversations with God books looks at how people perceive God and how we need to consider other ways to look at him, such as being less distant, vengeful, dogmatic, etc. Walsh tells how "tomorrow's God" will change the many institutions in our society, marriage, schools, government, etc. Walsch appears to have done his homework, and claims that "very little here cannot be found, cumulatively, in the sacred writings of all the world's wisdom traditions." The second half of the book looks at a utopian world where many of today's problems are resolved. Ed Asner is good as the voice of God.
